Different Concrete Base Installation Methods
Not every concrete base is installed the same way. The correct construction method depends on what the base is supporting, the ground conditions, drainage requirements and the long-term structural loads. A small garden shed requires a very different approach compared to a garage, workshop or brick outbuilding.
Standard Reinforced Concrete Bases
Most residential concrete bases are installed using a properly excavated and compacted sub-base, reinforced concrete and accurate finishing. This provides a stable platform for sheds, summerhouses, garden offices, hot tubs and similar outdoor buildings.
Strip Foundations
Where a structure will be built using brick or blockwork, strip foundations can provide a cost-effective solution. Concrete is placed beneath the load-bearing walls while the remaining floor construction is completed separately, making this a practical option for many masonry buildings.
Trench Fill Foundations
For larger or more demanding structural projects, trench fill foundations can reduce labour and construction time by filling the foundation trench with concrete to near ground level. Although this method uses more concrete, it often speeds up the overall build and reduces the amount of blockwork required.
